The leaders of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, the Republic of Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Australia, Anthony Albanese, members of MIKTA, met on the sidelines of the G20 Rio de Janeiro Leader’s Summit.

Leaders recalled that MIKTA, founded eleven years ago, represents a cross-regional partnership with a shared commitment to democracy, upholding the principles of international law, multilateralism, and international cooperation. At a time of multiple crises and geopolitical confrontation, MIKTA Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a safe, peaceful, just, equal, inclusive, sustainable and prosperous world for all, calling on all UN Member States to uphold the United Nations Charter and UN Resolutions, including those adopted by the Security Council.

Leaders underscore MIKTA’s role in striving for pragmatic and creative solutions to regional and global challenges, recognizing that the well-being of current and future generations, as well as the sustainability of the planet, depend on the willingness to take joint actions in key areas, such as sustainable development and financing for development, food security, international peace and security, global health, science, technology, innovation and digital cooperation, youth and future generations and the reform of the multilateral system and global governance.

As a group from diverse cultures and regions, Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to actively participating in major international fora, serving as a bridge-building force and helping to find consensus. In this context, MIKTA Leaders reiterate their commitment to the G20 as the premier forum for international economic cooperation.

Leaders also noted that under the Mexican Chairmanship in 2024, MIKTA has convened its 26th Foreign Ministers Meeting at the United Nations, the 4th Meeting of the Development Network, and the 10th MIKTA Speakers Consultation, in Mexico City. MIKTA partners have delivered 18 joint statements at high-level multilateral meetings and adopted a Special Communiqué in support of the Pact for the Future, in accordance with its commitment to an effective multilateral system and a sustainable, just, equitable, inclusive, and peaceful global system.

Leaders shared their appreciation to Mexico for its successful chairing of MIKTA in 2024 and commended the advancement of its three key priorities: 1) Strengthening multilateralism; 2) Placing women at the center of development efforts; and 3) Deepening coordination among development cooperation authorities.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to serve as a cross-regional cooperation and reinforce MIKTA’s constructive role in the international agenda under MIKTA Chair year of the Republic of Korea in 2025.
